Scenes from a Weekend- 8k Edition

Run for the Dream to benefit the Achievable Dream, Wounded Warriors program was this past weekend in Williamsburg, VA. It’s a nice scenic run that takes you around the William & Mary campus and through historic Williamsburg. We might be starting a family tradition as last year H and I both did our first half-marathons here and the 8k on Saturday.

H placed 11th in his age group (WOW!) and I placed an amazing 27 out of over 150 runners in my age category. I have to admit, I’m kind of surprised and impressed. Mostly surprised since that whole run was fairly sucktastic. It was almost 90 outside at 8 a.m. and humid. I haven’t run in that kind of heat or humidity yet this year and was just feeling depleted by mile 2. I walked some, which annoyed me and realized that I’m no longer 30. Yes, even 30 seems more energetic when after four late nights in a row I felt low on energy early on in the race.

Still, 27. Makes me a little giddy.

The biggest surprise was this one.

My Dad, who only six weeks ago decided to start running, ran the 8k with me. I was so freakin’ proud. He came in only 5 minutes after me and it was one of the best, most exciting moments of my life to see him run across that finish line. About an hour later he said he was ready to do another race. Ah, another addict is born.

Then these two jokers decided to take part in the kids 100 meter dash. Last year TD came in first. This year she placed 5th overall, 2nd for girls.

When she was finished Puppy-baby remarked, “Great race, Comedian!” Fruit snacks were had by all!

Even Lanie came to race.

After that, there was a little bit of this –

RUNNING PART DEUX

Now for a bit of business.  With all this running I’ve been doing I need to get all over fit again.  There needs to be more stretching, more weight training, more intervals, more EVERYTHING.  I have more races left in me yet.

I’ve decided that as a BeFIT Champ I’m going to enroll myself in their GO Summer Shape-Up Challenge.

What is this challenge you speak of you dare to ask?

It’s a four-week program that will take your body through a total transformation, just in time for summer! Yes, really.

Starting off small with short 10-20 minute workouts, the program helps build strength and stamina that will enable you to then tackle  the 40-minute workouts in the final week of the challenge.   I know, it sounds like a lot of fun, doesn’t it?!

Tell me I am not hearing crickets right now.

So, who is with me?  Who wants to try the challenge with me?  You can link up here each week and we can discuss how it is all going.  Ask questions and offer suggestions.  The schedule is below.

BeFit GO Summer Shape Up Challenge Schedule
A bonus tip:  If you don’t have free weights or a kettle ball (I don’t have this last one). You can fill a 1 liter plastic bottle with sand, it will amount to approximately 3 lbs.  Easy peasy!

Link up with Heart Shaped Sweat for her Virtual 5K  Link Up too!

 Let’s get started!

Good for both you H and the girls for getting out there and running. Wish I could be a runner but like the doc says “I can only run if it is for my life”.

There were walkers as well. I think the oldest person was 89. There are loads of options beyond running! 🙂 Check out the challenge, modifications are allowed.

You guys look great! Congrats on an impressive race. And I also love seeing your dad – “another addict born.” Yes!
