Fall for Pink and Yellow

Pretty in pink and yellow. Pink and yellow for fall?  Oh, indeed.   Every new season comes with a different set of color combinations. Rust and pale blue are hot right now. Fall 2016 has plenty of them to be sure, but the stand out to me this year is pink and yellow.  I'm in love with this combining of a soft, plush pink tone with a saturated yellow that brings to mind number 2 pencils.  Adding dashes of black and brown hues really makes the look stand out. What's your favorite color combo for fall?  Using this wooden flat bead necklace in black and animal print flats adds an almost tribal flair to an otherwise prim look. Burgundy Pants: 3 Ways

As fall approached I made a list of items I wanted for the season.  Burgundy pants was at the top of my list.  A quick trip into my local T.J. Maxx scored me a pair of Kensie jeans for under $20! I immediately went to work creating and pinning ideas on different ways to wear my burgundy pants all year long.  I just love them so much! This simple sweater combination with a blazer worked well for a meeting I had with a photographer for one of our houses.  I knew I would be running around the house moving lights and staging items as well as working a bit on the side. I wanted to look a little more professional than my daily jeans too. What I Wear When Staging a Flip

Some of you may know that H and I renovate, aka "flip" homes, together. It mixes a lot of things we love about real estate together and we make it a family business. Actually, I would say we make it a community business as we work with friends and neighbors as often as we can. I believe that when you turn a tired home into a gem again with the help of contractors and swimming pool builders, it is a community service on some small level. That being said when all the furniture and hybrid flooring is done it is time to stage the home for sale. That's one of my biggest jobs and while I like to be practical I also like to feel professional to some degree while I'm setting it all up. You never know who is going to drop by and take a look at the place. Here's what I wear when staging a … [Read more...]

What to Wear: Holiday Travel

Whether you are like me, a total planner, or someone who waits until the last minute to figure out what to wear and pack for holiday travel the key is to be both comfortable and stylish.   I am a total non-supporter of sweat pants on the plane.  Maybe some cute joggers but looking sloppy or traveling in your pj's over the age of five is not on my to-do list. Ever. Especially when wearing something as cute and comfy as this is an option. I wore this little look last week and loved it so much.  Perfect for travel days too. Back to Nature

It's time to head back to nature. After spending the weekend fixing up little things in the house, getting it ready for fall and generally being busy it felt time to head back to nature. Sure, there were lots of runs outdoors but I'm talking color schemes and clothes here, people. Ready for date night with H. Olive lightweight sweater with dark denim and booties makes a perfect dinner and movie look.  This honeycomb style necklace was included in my last Stitch Fix box. I love it! It's the perfect pendant for any season and will work with a lot of looks. Have  you tried Smith & Cult nail polish yet?  If not, DO IT!  Even without a top coat your nails will last.  Though I add a gel coat top coat by Essie each time I still have no-chip nails for 4-5 days.  That … [Read more...]

Feeling the Blues

Not exactly what you would expect from someone feeling the blues, right? Don't worry. I'm not. While I'm often too quick to see the negative (Damn my New England pessimistic roots!) I'm just really feeling the cool tones of this light blue oxford shirt when paired with distressed denim shorts. It makes me feel like summer is fast approaching and that's my favorite time of the year. It brings to mind the best of New England and memories of summers much like this.   Watch out! It will be here before we know it!  Memorial Day is this weekend! I love these slides with the pointed toe.  They add a different, slightly more dressed up version of the slip-on sneaker that you don't see that often.  While I'm wearing them with distressed denim shorts they look great with any … [Read more...]

Simple Sunday

Last week I hit my limit.  A simple Sunday was all that I wanted and needed.  Would I get it? Only after I put together a winter trunk show for Toyota. Then it was all about feeling the warm sun, peeling off a layer and digging in the dirt in our long-neglected yard.  Some neighbors came by to welcome us to the 'hood and I was so happy to see they had girls the same ages as mine.  What a gift!   This outfit strikes just the right note for talking cars, winter safety and still looking stylish.  I may be done with the boots but the weather sure isn't!  The wind whipped around hard and tying my hair back was the only option. Signature Style

Having a signature style, something that it totally you, is important.  It brings confidence when dressing and making decisions when styling anything from you to your home from the living room to your room that can have a big and organized wardrobe thanks to Mr Wardrobe services as well.  I've been told I'm hard to shop for and while I hate to believe that since I showcase so much of what I love right here on TMC, it might be true.  My signature style is classic chic with a bit of an edge thrown in some days. … [Read more...]

Leather & Lace

A few weeks back I sent out a plea for help with my outfit for H's work winter social.  I wanted something with a bit of an edge, something suitable and versatile and also, warm. Because let's face it the Capital has been C-O-L-D lately.  It doesn't suit me but I can't change it. I was in love with this over the knee leather skirt from Boohoo- … [Read more...]

Working Weekend

Last weekend H and I had a working weekend. Alone. No kids. We were excited to be able to collaborate, go through the mundane tasks we normally do apart and work side by side. We don't often get a chance to work in quiet for such a long period of time. The last few weeks have been exhausting in our house. We've both been working more than the norm and it is starting to take its toll on us. We needed to get out a bit after being inside all day and for us that meant house hunting. Crisp fall days are perfect for looking for your future home, don't you think? The lighting is golden and shows off the happy medium of what it can look like inside a house. Plus, foliage is gorgeous and often helps a property look its best. As we stood in the drive way of one beautiful home I asked H to snap … [Read more...]
