Gingham and Mint

It is like the word that must not be spoken.  The 'R' word.  It started back in April and has not let up since making wearing anything in gingham and mint feel like a joke. This spring would feel like a bust here in the DMV if it were not for a few bright, warm days when I can break out some of the seasons fresh colors and trends. When the sun came out for one day last week all I could think of was breaking out my retired aqua Coach tote bag and these three things. D'orsay flats, a gingham button down and mint denim. The peeped out for a few moments that day and warmed this up just a bit. No Hunter rain boots today! Versatile Neutrals for Every Season

I was obviously still feeling my basics look when I put this outfit on last week.  I like that the colors and style of it are versatile neutrals for every season. When paired with other styles of shoes or accessories they can be worn all year long. I had a casual meeting that morning but still had the usual running around with the kids and work from home routine going.  I knew I wanted comfort and a chance to wear some flats on an unusually warm day. Back to Basics

January, it is not my best month.  It's gray, rainy, cold and I just want to hibernate and wear thick over-sized sweaters, boots and jeans.  I loathe being cold.  This month always sends me back to basics, which brings me to this latest look. Classic white button down shirt, flared denim, suede black booties and a black cashmere sweater. All items that belong in your closet because they work in all seasons, sizes and activities. Red and Black Winter Style

The weather outside hasn't been frightful just yet but it has taken a turn for the chilly and I just couldn't stand the thought of heading outside to do a red and black winter style photo shoot for the link up. I would rather indulge in my latest obsession with creating flat lays. They are like a little art form these flat lays.  I love the idea of using a sheet versus a board.  The sheet offers a lot more room and a bit of texture for creating your look. I won this gold knot ring and houndstooth scarf from a giveaway from Joanna a few months back.  When they arrived I immediately thought of this outfit.  It is perfect for a party or just a day at the office. Not into this look?  You might like one of these items!  I'm cleaning out my closet on Vinted and Poshmark! SHOP THE … [Read more...]

Whatcha Wear to the WAPA Rally

Last Thursday I finally crawled out from under my deathbed, finally feeling better (!) just in time to attend one of my favorite events of the year, The WAPA Rally.  WAPA is The Washington Automotive Press Association and I've been a member for a few years now. Each October we take to the roads and get to drive some of the newest, most luxurious, most fun and just plain awesome cars in the industry. This year was no exception.  I drove everything from a Mercedes-Maybach S600 to a F-Type Jaguar coupe, a Ford Explorer and Edge to a Volvo XC90 and a few more in between.  It was a glorious fall day and I was dressed to drive. In years past I have found that a mix of casual style with comfort is best for these events.  Last month it was a structured top with flare leg denim and nude … [Read more...]

Denim on Denim

When it comes to parties, get-together's and events I have a tendency to stray from my comfort zone. At least in the last year or so it has been that way.  A white sequin dress for a gala vs. navy or black.  A leather skirt with a dress used as a top for a holiday work party.  This time it was a Thirty-One party I held at my house for friends on Saturday and I decided to go with denim on denim, a trend I didn't think I could pull off without being matchy-matchy, but instantly loved. I looked for daze organic cotton denim trying to find a few pieces that might match, and I really liked what I ended up choosing. So much so I kept the outfit on for date night too only adding a blanket scarf and clutch to round it out. The trick is to break it up and keep your shoes neutral. I added my … [Read more...]

Sunny

Sunny. There is really no other way to describe it.  The sun has been out for days, the weather is warmer and like my long dormant yard I'm feeling sunny and alive again.  That's what sleep, a consistent exercise regime and deciding to just no longer care so much and let things play out can do for you. And like I said before, I took no time over spring break to get fabulous outfit pics.  And really, do you want more painter jean pics?  I didn't think so. Because that's what I wore for days as I painted even more things around my house.  This place is an HGTV host's dream.  Instead, I give you what I got.  Easter. Fashion stops for no one kid.  Except maybe a DIY project or three. You are never going to get us all perfect and at the same time.  Truth. SHOP THE … [Read more...]

Simple Sunday

Last week I hit my limit.  A simple Sunday was all that I wanted and needed.  Would I get it? Only after I put together a winter trunk show for Toyota. Then it was all about feeling the warm sun, peeling off a layer and digging in the dirt in our long-neglected yard.  Some neighbors came by to welcome us to the 'hood and I was so happy to see they had girls the same ages as mine.  What a gift!   This outfit strikes just the right note for talking cars, winter safety and still looking stylish.  I may be done with the boots but the weather sure isn't!  The wind whipped around hard and tying my hair back was the only option. Liquid & Lace

It's been a full round of get-together's, parties and time with friends and family. And I'm still on my whole "DO NOT BUY ANYTHING UNTIL AFTER CHRISTMAS!" rule. Yeah, that's working um..so-so. Using items I already have in my closet and mixing and matching is like giving my clothes a second chance and a gift at a new look and life, right? Isn't that the Christmas spirit or I have not eaten enough due to the flu running through my family and I'm just talking crazy? I love the idea of liquid leggings and lace this time of year. The look can work for many occasions and these leggings from Zappos are fleece-lined! Perfect for this time of year. Together and with different shoes and accessories you can wear it over and over again all the way to New Year's Eve.   Liquid … [Read more...]

Do Work

I don't even know where to begin.  But sometime between losing the house, Halloween and now I fell off the workout/eat healthy wagon. HARD. I became complacent.  I would throw on my workout clothes and then, "meh..." shower.  Part of me wanted to remove fitness from my site and just continue to rifle through old trick or treat bags and yell with a full mouth, "Bring on the pie and Thanksgiving treats!  Where's all my holiday baking?!" Thankfully, I had some motivation come my way in the last two weeks. … [Read more...]
