Always Mad for Plaid

Maybe it is because I was an 80s child and a teen in the 90s but I have always been mad for plaid.  The traditional pleated skirts I wore as a private school kid in the 1980s. The fabulous 70s a-line skirts my mother wore when I was little with heeled boots. Then the plaid flannel shirts, more pleated skirts and oh those plaid stockings and leggings I could NOT stop wearing in high school. I love plaid.  Always and forever. Amen. The holiday season is officially here.  So long Halloween, make way for the burnt oranges, browns and golden yellow plaids that deepen our love for fall.  Then turn your eyes on the darker black plaids, brilliant reds and gorgeous green plaids that fill the holiday season in the month of December. How to Dress Up a Flannel Shirt

On Saturday I was out to lunch with my family, when a friend and blog reader came up to me and said that she loved my 'Holiday Plaid' post but when she tried to replicate the look at home it just didn't work out. How many times has that happened to you?  You see an outfit that you absolutely adore on a blogger and even if you buy the exact same pieces it just didn't look right for you.  What happened? I spotted this casual look from A Thoughtful Place through my link up and decided to replicate it at home. You are taller, shorter or a hourglass where she has a totally different build.  Trust … [Read more...]

Are You Mad for Holiday Plaid?

I am placing full responsibility on this red ruffled shirt for single-handedly getting me into the Christmas spirit. It also made me mad for holiday plaid. Now I just want ALL THE PLAID. I wore this easy combination on Thanksgiving and I loved it more than I thought I would.  Initially when I bought the shirt and tried it on I felt it was too stuffy.  Buttoned up all the way to the top to show off the ruffles was too staid.  Pairing it with my velvet skinny pants felt too much like I was skipping Thanksgiving entirely and heading straight to Santa coming down the chimney. I decided to undo a few buttons and add some much needed sparkle with this J.Crew necklace I received as a birthday gift (SOLD OUT-similar).  Pairing it with skinny ankle pants felt classic and enhanced … [Read more...]

#iloveoctober

If you follow me on Instagram then you saw my #iloveoctober "obligatory fall post" already. It is also this week's featured look on Whatcha Wearing Wednesday's link up and another reason October is my favorite month.  It's all about warmth, golden sunshine and bright blue October skies. Obligatory fall Instagram shot. You're welcome. ‪#‎notaPSL‬ ‪#‎fall‬ ‪#‎plaid‬‪#‎booties‬ ‪#‎iloveoctober‬ ‪#‎douchiefallpost‬ The soft plaid shirt from Madewell I purchased from Shopbop last month. It is a bit over-sized and this is a size small, looks cute with the sleeves rolled up or down.  I did both on and off all day depending on how the wind was blowing.  Paired with low-heeled brown leather booties and my reliable boyfriend jeans (SALE ALERT!) the look was incredibly simple but garnered many … [Read more...]
