Beat the Heat: 5 Summer Running Tips

Weather Emoji says: Last week when I was at the beach and wearing this cute re:named floral jumpsuit from Shopbop? Torrential rains and gusty winds. But here we are in August already, it is the dog days of summer and I'm all about restoring myself and trying to take back a bit of what is left of these golden warm months that beckon to me just like my hammock outside. I've started taking yoga in the mornings at an outdoor class in my 'hood.  It's soul refreshing every time and perfect after my early morning runs. See my summer running tips below I had to buy this after my first class.  It makes me laugh every time I wear it and want to head over to yoga class.   Let's not forget the moms with little ones!  When my kiddos were super little one of the best … [Read more...]

The Perfect White Dress

Ah, summer.  You've been a whirlwind. But not so crazy that I didn't have time to find myself the perfect white dress. Meet Ali & Jay 'Kiss Me in the Candlelight', my perfect white dress. It comes in white or black. Both are fabulous.  The dress hugs me in all the right places and I can't wait to wear it for a date night or even dinner out while at the beach.  I love the tassels and the length is short but not too short for my over 40 self. Take a look at the straw bags I included that are all UNDER $50. Fierce Summer Activewear

Summertime sweat sessions are some of my favorite times to workout. I love getting up before everyone else and getting a good workout in. The only problem is half the time I end up at the pool for the kids swim practice afterwards and I'm still in my summer activewear. I need some fierce summer activewear so to speak to keep my motivation high and to help me continue working out all summer long and look good while doing it. The Nike Free TR7 Cross Trainers offer both stability and flexibility both of which I need when I'm doing my routines. I love the summery blue hues with the yellow streaking through the sole and sides. Add in the lemon tank labeled 'fierce' that makes me feel lighting fast ( I can dream, right?) and I feel fresh and ready to tackle the most challenging work out my … [Read more...]

Travel with the Kate Spade New York Harbor Crossbody

When I went to Alaska last month I knew that my clothing options needed to be more functional versus fashionable. I didn't want to feel weighed down either whether I was running between my three flights there and back or running around the town of Juneau. I needed a lightweight bag that wouldn't allow me to cram piles of stuff into it. The Kate Spade New York Harbor Crossbody made perfect sense. It's elegant, versatile and unlike some bags with chains on the strap, it wasn't heavy or uncomfortable to tote around. I loved using it while traveling through the six airports I had to go through as much as I like using it now on a daily basis. It never stops getting compliments either. Inside there are two pockets to store things. I put my keys in there and my phone in another. … [Read more...]

How to Pack for Alaska

This time next week I will already be back from my whirlwind trip to Alaska.  I'm visiting my oldest and dearest friend, E.  She moved to Alaska a little over a year ago and I just knew I had to visit.  It's been way too long since we've been together and I've been in a ridiculous packing planning frenzy for this trip. I keep asking myself the same question over and over again. How to Pack for Alaska? It is all about the layers.  The weather in June is often rainy and temps can dip into the 50s during the days or reach the low 70s and be sunny.  It varies from day to day. Layers are key to packing and taking in the sights. Also, when I land at what is typically my bedtime I will not just be five hours behind my normal time zone but also it will still be light outside.  The sun will … [Read more...]

A Straw Bag for Summer

There's no denying that the straw bag is BIG when it comes to summer.  Whether you tote it to the beach or find a cute straw clutch; the straw bag is the bag for when summertime hits.  My latest straw bag has a story and one that makes me cherish it all the more. Not my latest straw bag but a cute one all the same. Last month my Mom visited and as she was getting ready to leave she handed me this butterfly straw bag.  I told her how cute I thought it was and she told me how she wanted me to have it.  It was the last birthday present my grandmother, her mother, had given her.  I knew instantly that I would keep it forever and use it with care. For every day I think the butterfly straw bag looks cute with a simple set of shorts and a tank.  Add a delicate pendant with a set of … [Read more...]

How to Style White Pants

The days of waiting until Memorial Day to break out the white pants are O-V-E-R, over. Now we can wear white pants all year round.  That means figuring out more ways on how to style white pants. I bought this super lightweight and snuggly soft gray sleeveless turtleneck last summer and wore it only once.  That made me sad.  I love it, but once June hits in Virginia it is straight up straps and tanks. This year I was determined to break it out early and find new ways to style it.  Enter my new white ankle pants from Old Navy. With white pants, both pieces can shine. It is basic but it works for a variety of occasions depending on what shoes or accessories you pair them with.  I wanted to play down the shoes but add a small amount of color and the necklace I received at Christmas … [Read more...]

Flipping a House Style Edition

Many of you know that H and I are flipping a house right now. It's what we do. I've shown my staging style on Whatcha Wearing Wednesday before too. Whenever people find out that we really like flipping a house they always ask one question, "Do you watch all those shows on HGTV? OH! So and so is my favorite..."  And yes, sometimes we do.  But almost every time I cringe and here is why.  Flip flops and heels of any kind could seriously injure you while on the job.  What do I wear when visiting a potential flip?  The same thing I wear when we I'm on the site and it is under construction. But almost every time I cringe and here is why.  Flip flops and heels of any kind could seriously injure you while on the job. I typically don't carry my purse, wear a lot of jewelry or anything nice. … [Read more...]
