Hoop Earrings: A Versatile Classic

My love for iconic earring styles especially hoop earrings began when I was a preteen. My grandmother gave me my Christmas present that year, probably a sweater, and then she presented me with a smaller box. She said, "This is from your grandfather." I had never received a gift from just him before. I had a feeling it was really her but I opened up the tiny gift-wrapped box with its miniature bow and found a delicate pair of gold hoop earrings. I gasped.  Then I immediately put the beautiful hoops on and never looked back. I wore them almost daily for the next 6-7 years until I became obsessed with wearing pearl studs. A Holiday Thank You to Delivery Drivers

We get A LOT of packages.  Even in pre-Covid times, I was a bit of a package junkie.  I've been a member and avid user of Amazon since 1998.  I have no shame in this game. @purzlbaum unsplash.com Exhibit A: Last August we went on vacation for a week and a neighbor watched our dogs for us.  When we returned home seven days later the entire entryway was full of boxes and plastic sealed bags full of items ordered in the last few weeks.  However, many of them were things we had been waiting on for months due to pandemic problems with shipping and supply.  It was embarrassing, to say the least.  We looked like addicts. Honestly, it is not that bad on the regular. Exhibit B: is this holiday season.  I'm immunocompromised due to Chronic Lyme and I already loathe leaving my house … [Read more...]

How To Navigate The Holidays As A Divorced Parent

The holiday season can be stressful for everyone, but it's an especially complicated time for children of divorce. On average, kids will spend 277 days out of the year with their custodial parent and 88 with their non-custodial parent. However, because the holidays are a time when families come together, winter festivities can quickly turn this holly jolly time into a season of stress. If you're navigating the holidays as a divorced parent this year, here are a few tips to keep in mind to keep your stress levels and your children's under control. Have a mediator if necessary If you've gone through a recent divorce, you're not alone. Approximately 2.4 million weddings are performed every year, which is roughly 44,230 weddings every weekend. Up to 50% of those marriages will end in … [Read more...]

Jane for the Holidays

I have a secret. I buy A LOT of things from Jane.com.  Especially when it comes to the holidays and seasonal items for the home.  However, I also buy some really cute clothes and accessories from there.  Every time I wear an item from there someone asks about it too.  Full of different vendors and always new items I am a huge fan of this fun site. (not sponsored) Favorites Right Now (get them while they last!) I pulled the trigger and bought this coat.  My kids are MORTIFIED. I don't care. It's warm. I love it and it makes me happy every time I wear it. I bought a pair of these in leggings in black last year.  I wore them on New Year's Eve.  It was a pajama/cozy themed party and these were a hit.  They are leggings after all. :) These velvet gloves dress up my peacoat … [Read more...]

Always Mad for Plaid

Maybe it is because I was an 80s child and a teen in the 90s but I have always been mad for plaid.  The traditional pleated skirts I wore as a private school kid in the 1980s. The fabulous 70s a-line skirts my mother wore when I was little with heeled boots. Then the plaid flannel shirts, more pleated skirts and oh those plaid stockings and leggings I could NOT stop wearing in high school. I love plaid.  Always and forever. Amen. The holiday season is officially here.  So long Halloween, make way for the burnt oranges, browns and golden yellow plaids that deepen our love for fall.  Then turn your eyes on the darker black plaids, brilliant reds and gorgeous green plaids that fill the holiday season in the month of December. My Favorite Finds: Madewell Harvest Sweater I love this … [Read more...]

12 Things I Love- More Things to Love This Holiday Season

First up this week is the Archipelago 'Peppermint Bark' candle.  I picked one up last year while getting a massage and still had half the candle leftover for this Christmas season.  It smells slightly sweet but not cloying with a fresh but light peppermint.  I love it.  It makes an excellent hostess or teacher gift too.   Second, is another all-time favorite of mine and is two products from one company, Skincando.  I met the founder, Sara, a few years ago while getting a facial.  She makes her own organic products and they are amazing.  They work, they last, they are pure and feel good to use too. The Miracle Cream goes with me everywhere and is perfect this time of year. I swear by the Combat-Ready Baby Balm and I don't even have babies anymore.  We use it on rashes, bug … [Read more...]

12 Days of Things I Love

Happy December! This month I'm doing 12 Days of Things I Love.  Each week I will share a few more items until we hit that magic number 12. I've done three items this week so far.  Let's get started, shall we? I featured this item to kick off the event.  It's a darker take on holiday nails and since Essie is one of my favorite nail polish brands I had to share it. You take Essie Wicked and apply it over your base coat.  Then layer on Essie Bordeaux and finish it off with a top coat.  It's a deeper burgundy that glows with depth.  I love it this holiday season and through the new year. Next, my can't go a day without my cozy shearling-lined slippers from Lands End.  I have a Josie Blue pair from last year and they held up well all year long.  This year you can monogram … [Read more...]
