But First, Gangster Rap & Some Activewear

But first, gangster rap.  Yup, that's me. When I'm feeling down. Gangster rap. When I'm feeling angry and like the world is full of injustice. Gangster rap. When I'm having a kick ass day and full of hustle?  Gangster rap, please. To be truthful, I'm just a hip hop fan all around.  Throw in some disco and funk and that's pretty much what makes my little musical world go round. So when I saw this shirt on Facebook I knew it had to be mine.  H gave it to me for Christmas and while I know I'll wear it under a blazer or hanging around the house or WHEREVER because I LOVE IT, it also makes a great activewear piece.  And really?  What's better to workout to?  Pop music? Not for this girl. I picked up these 3/4 leggings at Shopbop in December. I was feeling the red color hard.  They … [Read more...]

Home Chef- It’s What’s For Dinner

Source: HomeChef.com They say "abs are made in the kitchen." That is no lie.  What you eat plays an equally important role in your health and fitness goals.  Now, you know I'm all about being healthy as well as living in moderation. Personally, I find extremes UN-healthy. When Home Chef approached me last month to try out their service I about fell over with excitement.  Pre-planned meals delivered to my door twice a week? Sign me up, please! I plan our meals for each week on the weekends and then order our food accordingly.  I buy my groceries online through Harris Teeter and pick them up at the store to save time and money. No impulse purchases are committed this way. Each meal is balanced and healthy but damn, sometimes I am fresh out of ideas or just bored with our usual entrees or … [Read more...]

Working For It

There comes a time before every race that I know I have to bite the bullet and actually run the full distance of the race. A practice run, really.  Even if I know I have accumulated those miles before or I've come just a mile under I still have to physically run that full distance to get my head in the right place. That up there?  Bane and me running hard on Monday. Because ready or not my 10 miles loomed large and had to be done even if it sucked up more than half of my morning. Because... Source: fitcanhappennow.com How I feel mid-run. While I wanted to wear this cute tank I picked up this winter the weather still wasn't ready for it.  Maybe spring will really be sprung from the evil clutches of Old Man Winter by this weekend as I start to taper off in my mileage. The … [Read more...]

A Little Motivation

When it comes to fitness I have been off my game this summer. Sure, I've been working out on a regular basis but I haven't pushed myself in the last month. I stopped running regularly when we started to move and afterwards it was the dead of winter, a new neighborhood with no consistent sidewalks and a bunch of excuses to fuel the 'no more running' fire. Except, once a runner, always a runner. I think that same mind over body thing that can sometimes derail a good run will also bring you right back around. The way I feel after a run lasts more than a few hours and I love how it changes my perspective and gets me out and about and into the elements. It clears my head and keeps me active while giving me a bit of alone time too. And I'm all about anything that offers up less stress, better … [Read more...]

Get in Shape, Girl!

I will admit that it has been hard this week to get in a good workout. Some weeks are just like that, but it is important to me to get back up the next day and try again. It may be 10 minutes one day and then a full run or actual HIIT workout or maybe just Pilates in my bedroom but I did it. I got out there. I was active. I took the time for myself to stay strong. To me, it keeps me sane and makes me a better wife and mother.   I'm starting something new with some Quick Fit Tips! Check it out and I hope you like them! Feel free to ask questions, start a conversation, offer your own tips and Subscribe to my channel! … [Read more...]

Wide Awake with Jensy

I'm not quite sure how to describe how I met Jensy, author of Your Wide Awakening: A Guide to Anorexia Recovery. I had participated, while very pregnant with The Comedian, in a yoga class for moms and kids that she taught at TD's preschool and I knew of her through our mutual friend Jen who we sadly had to say good-bye to this past February. Jen had always told me that I would love Jensy and that one day we should all get together.  That fun little trio never got to happen but it didn't matter.  … [Read more...]

Not Lovin’ It- A Mother’s Day Wish

Mother's Day gift guides, reviews, special product placement and sponsored posts have all been pitched to me ad nauseum the last few weeks. I'm over it. What a woman wants for Mother's Day is pretty personal. I usually want the same thing each year. 1. To sleep in. 2. To read the Sunday paper. 3. To not wash one dish or cook one meal. 4. I want my coffee hot. In a 'Join or Die' mug. And if a copy of Moonrise Kingdom, Rushmore and L.A. Story happen to wander into my hands I'm happy.  Easy peasy. Pretty simple, really. There's something else too and I want it all the time. 24/7, all year long. … [Read more...]

5 Steps to Amazing Arms

I try not to make New Year's resolutions  because the idea just makes me cranky. Yet, there is always something lurking in the back of my mind that I want to accomplish or try for during the year.  This year my secret goal was "Michelle Obama" arms.  After seeing the changes in my back and arms from a summer doing ME, I wanted more.  It's a real work in progress that shows me just how much dedication it takes to get those sculpted biceps and triceps but I'm lovin' it so far.  But I need some help so I talked to fitness experts and yes, celebrity trainers, Jennifer Devilliers and Jolie Kobrinsky, co-founers of The Prime Method.  Using five exercises and taking about 4 weeks they  have helped stars get toned and red carpet ready.  I wanted in.  … [Read more...]

Upping My Game & Finding New Challenges

Spring break last week provided me with more opportunities to work out, read books about this first British female to summit K2, which helped me to be more productive than I could of ever imagined. I was halfway through the week and realized, "I've worked out every day! YES!" And I rocked that routine mixing it up with ME, running and weights everyday but Sunday when we traveled. I typically don't go to the gym at night with the kids but last week I said, "Screw it!" It's the witching hour in our house at that point and if I just plan enough, meaning dinner made ahead of time, I can get to my favorite class (Metabolic Effect) and be done and the kids have a blast at the gym's Kidz Klub (don't get me started on that spelling) every time we go they think it is like going to a birthday … [Read more...]
