Great Winter Reads

The cold weather and unusually long series of cloud-filled days has driven us all inside this month. That means we are finding more time to take a seat and find some great winter reads.  Here's what we're reading in our house right now. Do you have a kid obsessed with Stampy Cat in your house?  I have three of them! They spent more than one day of winter break watching his videos. Stampy's Lovely Book by Joseph Garrett (aka Stampy Cat) shares the essence of Stampy’s engaging personality and contagious enthusiasm. Kids are invited to join Stampy on his adventures which includes games, activities, tips, jokes and exclusive information about Stampy and his friends. It's the perfect way to keep them reading while fighting the winter doldrums too. Looking for a little adventure with a … [Read more...]

We’ll Always Have Paris

When TD, my oldest was born, I dreamed that one day I would take her to Paris.  Just her and I. I wanted to do it before she turned 12.  Eight years later we haven't made the trek and there are two smaller sisters who have followed.  The idea of trekking across the Atlantic with three small girls in tow all by myself no longer possesses such a dream-like state.  Sounds more nightmarish, if I'm being totally honest.  They still act like feral cats a bit too much to make that trip. … [Read more...]

When the Cypress Whispers and More

The first weeks of spring walloped us with lots of snow and then torrential rains. We've spent a lot of time indoors tucked away into couches, corners and under bedcovers reading up on warmer places and dreaming of the future of our little space when temperatures begin to rise and the sun comes out. Here are some of our good finds. … [Read more...]

What We Are Reading This Month

Disclaimer: TMC was not paid for this post. These are books we are reading on our own with the exception of Homemade Cleaners and Rainbow Loom Madness, which are not sponsored but review items. Opinions on all items are TMC's only.   I've said it before and I will say it again. We are a reading house.  There are books on tops of counters, sideboards, coffee tables, night stands and yes, the bookcases.  Magazines, newspapers, kindles and tablets along with real paper books litter every room of our house and it isn't too difficult to find someone reading at any given time.  I love it. I wouldn't have it any other way.  That being said, we go through A LOT of books all the time and at a rapid rate.  Here's some of what we are reading right now.  … [Read more...]

What We Are Reading Right Now

I will fully cop to the fact that I pick up seasonally appropriate books for the kids at the library each year. I also pull any turkey, fall or Thanksgiving-related books off their bedroom bookshelves and out front and center to read at bed and nap times.  I do the same thing for Christmas, Halloween, Easter and birthdays.  I'm kind of a freak.  If I were to let it go further I would place them all in a basket in the living room as well.  Crazy, much?  Yes, I think that is. Right now the Christmas books are being pulled out whether I'm ready to read them or not.  This one is our latest and greatest. … [Read more...]

Books We Are Reading Right Now

We are a family of book lovers. Reading is a priority in our house from stories at nap time to bedtime and everything in between. The kids have adopted our need to devour books and I'm always willing to check out new titles or head to the library. Actually I think the library sort of hates our family. We come in like a hurricane, grab a bazillion books and leave a whirlwind of dust in our wake. Then six weeks later it happens all over again with a stack of late fees that makes my five year-old self blush with humility. Having late library books is like a mortal sin to me.  The rest of my family feels no shame.  I cringe. This month we are reading a few great titles, some are just perfect for Halloween! Let's explore! … [Read more...]
