My Parenting Skills Sucketh

1. I believe in teaching TD about caring for her planet. She knows how to recycle. She, uh-oh, likes it. Shh....2. She wants to eat her veggies so she won't um, cough up blood or anything.3. She likes to donate her time and money to worthy and valuable causes. Which, according to Glen Beck makes me a communist. I'm teaching my little comrade, er kid, to shill the White House creed. It's not that I'm teaching her to be a decent human being or anything. Nope, I'm just tainting her as I'm brainwashed by Hollywood, television and Obama. Le Sigh. While I don't love the idea that it takes 30 Rock, Ashton Kutcher or a day at Disney (that's not really what it's about, now is it?) to get people to donate their time to a good cause I am willing to admit that for some this is the best … [Read more...]

Taking Time for the National Day of Service and Rememberance

What are your plans for tomorrow? It's National Day of Service and Remembrance, a day where many individuals and organizations (think nonprofit, employers and faith based groups, etc) around the country will work together to perform good deeds in observance of the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.Maybe you are remembering someone dear or taking part in the 2996 project. Here in our house we'll be throwing in a bit of this- With a heaping helping of this? You get a little girl who is taking the contents of her piggy bank and donating it all to a local charity. We've narrowed it down to two places- her annual Christmas charity or the nearby ACTS organization. TD has two piggy banks - one for her savings and the other for charity. It's what she decided to do upon acquiring the second … [Read more...]

Confessions of a Grocery Whore

Hi there loyal Mummy readers! This is Stacy, aka: The Fabulous Miss S. I am guest posting here today for our dear Mummy, Victoria who is recovering from a nasty cold and child birth.Congratulations and GET WELL!! Vicky.::I hear that the first step is admitting you have a problem? Well, I have a problem. I am a Grocery Store whore. No, I am not whoring myself at the local market, but rather, I shop at a minimum of three different stores each week and none of them know about each other. And it is leaving me a wee bit exhausted.I live in a nice little suburban area of Maryland where if I turn left out of my neighborhood I arrive at Safeway. If I go straight out of my neighborhood I come to a Shoppers Food Warehouse. Right leads me to a just-remodeled Giant and left-straight-right-left … [Read more...]

My Trash the Dress

Cross-posted from Flaming TulleRecently I participated in Trash the Dress, a growing project that many photographers are taking part in. Now worldwide Trash the Dress is typically done the week after a wedding has taken place. The bride gets back into ‘the’ dress and well, trashes it. Photos are done in water, under water, in the dirt or just plain out in the open without a care as to what happens to the dress. There’s even been a dumpster dive. When a photographer friend of mine asked me to take part in this fun project I was eager to help out.Not wanting to use my own dress, and quite frankly I don’t think it still fits, I opted instead to lay waste to some of the bridesmaids dresses that appear to be breeding in the back of my closet. Out came the sage colored two-piece, the red … [Read more...]

Trash the Dress Baby! Just trash it!

Tomorrow I will be participating in Trash the Dress. I cannot tell you how excited I am. What is it?Quite simply it is a photographer project where they take photos of women destroying their wedding dresses or other fancy attire. See I seem to have an extensive collection of bridesmaid dresses and military ball gowns that quite frankly need to be done away with. I could just donate them like I have in the past to such charities as The Glass Slipper Foundation or to Ugly Dress. Except none of these dresses are ugly. Not even the kiwi colored one if you can believe it. So when I was asked by a local photographer to take some time to get down and dirty, traipse through the various terrains of local graveyards, dried out riverbeds and lay down in some leafy trails I jumped at it. Yes, it will … [Read more...]
