The American Girl Gift Guide

Every year my girls and I put together a collection of our favorite items to create the American Girl gift guide. This year is no different. Just like I would get into a flurry of excitement when the big Sears catalog would arrive each Christmas, my girls do the same thing with the holiday American Girl doll catalog.  Each one spends hours, sometimes days, looking over each item and deciding if she should mark it with her initial.  This year, the littlest one circled everything and freaked out when anyone else wanted the same toy. She was convinced only one person could have each gift. Our picks for the 2015 holiday season are a mix of accessories and clothing and broken down by age.  This was the first year I noticed a shift in what my oldest daughter daughter wanted and I had to … [Read more...]

American Girl Doll Giveaway

Taking a little break from fashion, fitness and cars I bring you something that the little people in my house are passionate about right now.  American Girl dolls and all that the brand encompasses.  We are such a big #AG house with three girls under the age of 10.  Each time a new doll debuts it is a major full-on squealing deal. Phone calls are made to friends. Hours are logged online looking at each and ever accessory.  It's like me with my online shopping habit.  So, I'm super excited to announce I am giving away the newest American Girl doll, Maryellen Larkin. I love this message.  It goes so well with American Girl's new initiative #AGForAllGirls that asks girls to unite together and take a pledge that they will work together in all ways and support each other rather than … [Read more...]

On Writing and American Girl with Author Mary Casanova

It's Friday and time for a little bit of fun.  In our house that means it probably has something to do with American Girl.  From the moment we moved into our new home the girls immediately set up different parts of their rooms with their dolls.  Each set-up, like the dolls, is different and was a way to show how much they love spending time creating worlds and adventures with their special American Girl dolls. The Comedian with Grace Thomas We were so excited when the Girl of the Year, Grace entered our house.  The Comedian may have received her but it was TD that devoured the book as soon as it arrived.  She couldn't wait to interview Mary Casanova, the author of the Grace series with me.  We had fun putting the questions together too.   … [Read more...]

American Girl Holiday Gift Guide

The holidays are all about being personal.  I don't do that very much on TMC, at least not anymore.  Call me nostalgic but I get that way about American Girl. When American Girl, then Pleasant Company, debuted in the mid-80's I was ten years-old. My Dad knew that my love of history and dolls would just swoon over the catalog. He was right. It was love at first sight. I earmarked the Samantha pages but loved reading the details about all the dolls, which at the time was only three.  My wish for more than a few Christmases was for the Samantha doll.  It's one of the many reasons I do an American Girl gift guide each holiday season. Our Holiday Gift Ideas with American Girl

Disclosure:  TMC was not paid for this post.  Products received are for review purposes only.  Opinions are TMC's only.    Three girls with three hearts devoted to American Girl means we spend a lot of time going through each and every American Girl catalog that comes to our house.  That catalog is like the big fat Sears catalog was to me when I was growing up.  They spend hours circling things, discussing items and talking about who they imagine they will give so many of the dolls and accessories to, if only they had an unlimited bank account.  This year I rounded up the girls and asked them to tell me their top three items they would like to receive or give to friends. … [Read more...]

Gabriela McBride: The 2017 Doll of the Year

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! We have a lot of love here in our house (most days) and the girls love for their American Girl dolls is no exception. The cannot get enough of them or their cute accessories. I'll cop to being a total enabler too. That's why we were so excited to welcome Gabriela McBride, the 2017 Doll of the Year, into our home. Source: American Girl My middle girl fell in love with Gabby, as we call her, instantly.  She couldn't stop talking about her and her cute signature outfit, her warm brown eyes and how she shares the same name as her own best friend.  She wanted her bad. Just watch the video. What the girls love about this particular doll, she created more excitement in our home than dolls in the previous years, is her activist personality and love … [Read more...]

The TMC Holiday Gift Guide

I did it again. I created a TMC Holiday Gift Guide.  You've been warned. There are no gift ideas here for the man in your life. Why? Because quite frankly every time I look at one of those guides or show one to H he says, "This is all stuff I would never want and never need. I want a snowblower or running gear, not shaving accessories. I swear to God, Vicky, if I see another toiletry bag as a gift I'm going to shiv someone." #twopeasinapod   Let's start with the kids gift guide, shall we?   Holiday Gift Guide for Kids by victoriamason featuring paper placemats Mega Bloks American Girl Isabelle Ballet Recital/Exploding Kittens: A Card Game About Kittens and Explosions and Sometimes Goats/American Girl Wellie Wisher (Willa shown)/Carter's Pajamas/Seedling Snow … [Read more...]

Denim on Denim

When it comes to parties, get-together's and events I have a tendency to stray from my comfort zone. At least in the last year or so it has been that way.  A white sequin dress for a gala vs. navy or black.  A leather skirt with a dress used as a top for a holiday work party.  This time it was a Thirty-One party I held at my house for friends on Saturday and I decided to go with denim on denim, a trend I didn't think I could pull off without being matchy-matchy, but instantly loved. I looked for daze organic cotton denim trying to find a few pieces that might match, and I really liked what I ended up choosing. So much so I kept the outfit on for date night too only adding a blanket scarf and clutch to round it out. The trick is to break it up and keep your shoes neutral. I added my … [Read more...]

Maximized

The Maxi dress is out now, right? Because I finally wore one. For the longest time I refused. Even when so many of my friends needled me about the benefits of the Maxi's charm, comfort and ease. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm not tall enough and I have curves, I told myself. I finally picked one out.  The nice people over at East & Lo asked me if I wanted to check out their styles. I chose the Striped Maxi Dress in White & Black.   I was really excited to wear it and dress up a bit after a weekend of being covered in paint and DIY debris. Folks, the red walls in my living room and dining room are no more!  TD's room has been reborn with a white and aqua painted loft bed, which may include a mattress from that serta vs.sealy blog, where the closet was turned … [Read more...]
