City Mouse by Stacey Lender

Summer is almost here.  Are you looking for a new book to devour by the pool, on the beach or by the lake?

No matter what your summer destination is or isn’t this year Stacey Lender’s debut novel, CITY MOUSE is a guilty pleasure read with depth and heart that is sure to spark conversation and is perfect for summer reading.  Why?

City Mouse Offers Vulnerability, Wit & Laughs

The hook is all in the question that every one of us has often asked ourselves.  Is the grass really greener on the other side of the fence?  This is exactly what happens to the main character, Jessica, as she and her husband and two little kids find themselves getting squeezed out of their NYC space that they are renting.  Unable to find what they want or can afford in the city they realize they might have to start looking elsewhere. After a visit to old friends in the ‘burbs, the allure of greener grasses, pools, deluxe grills and wide open spaces definitely draws Jessica and her family in.  And if they buy into this new life is that having it all? It sure sounds like it might be.

City Mouse gives readers a funny, sometimes scathing look into suburbia and all the thorny secrets that can often hide behind well-decorated walls and manicured lawns.  It also offers a dose of reality when it comes to making new friends as an adult and finding out what works for you and your family. It’s a great read to kick off the summer and one that will leave you thinking even after its final chapter ends.

Well, I normally take a week off of work in July so I can spend a real bit of stay-cation with my kids. My kids go to daycare when school is out. Not much fun but, gotta do what I gotta do to keep a roof over our heads.

After 2 years of planning, my husband and I will be going camping at least 2 weekends this summer. Our plans got derailed last year when I suffered a mild stroke, and I was busy trying to recover. It’s funny how such a little thing as a weekend in a tent can be so exciting!
