My Elementary School Age Kids Eat Baby Food

My kids may be beyond actual babyhood but that doesn’t mean that baby food is no longer in my house. Yes, the rice cereal went with the bottles and rubber nipples but the squeezable fruit and veggie pouches  stayed along with other assorted foods and here’s why.

  1.  Baby Food is Portable. Whether you have a full day of errands or fun activities (hello, beach trip!) ahead of you and your family or you are on the road; baby food like GoGo Squeez pouches, Peeled dried fruit or Jammy Sammy bars are easy to pack and take with you when you are on the go. I can pack a full days worth of snacks and drinks in a flash in non-leaking, biodegradable packaging, All those flat, squishy square and rectangular shapes fit nicely into my “mom-sized” purse or beach bag. So while I no longer carry a diaper bag, packaged baby food makes snacking a snap and saves money versus buying food at concession stands. Clean up is as easy as throwing the container away. It also brings me to reason number two.
  2. CR-2161_Diapers_MILK_JUICE_DRINKS._V271204034_ Baby Food is Healthy Food. I am always on the lookout for a healthy alternative to fun foods that my kids squeal over and want to eat.  Baby food items like snack crackers like Annie’s Homegrown Bunny Fruit Snacks, Honest Kids Juice Pouches, Plum Kids Fruit Shredz and Sprout Organic Crispy Chews are filled with extra doses of fruits, vegetables, and sometimes protein without packing in a ton of sugar.  There is less fat, salt and processed food when it comes to this type of baby food and that makes me feel good and the kids enjoy eating all of it.  We no longer carry around sippy cups, but I still like to give my kids milk to drink. The boxed milk that doesn’t need refrigeration works great in their lunch boxes each day.
  3. The Kids Just Like Them. My girls flip over the bright packaging and fun colors and shapes that a lot of this food offers.  From lunch to snack time or after school sports practice they like to find little bags of gummies or rice cakes in their bags to tide them over until meal time.  The fact that I can sneak extra fruits and vegetables into them is just a bonus.

Do you still food like this to your kids?  What tricks do you employ to make trips or packing lunch boxes easier?

I like the idea for older toddlers or younger ones still eating these healthier options that have much less preservatives than most foods. My boys are teens and probably wouldn’t want to be seen in public with any of these items, but I don’t think there’s any food they wouldn’t eat as they raid the fridge after school! 🙂
