Paleo Cleanse- 30 Day Detox

The holiday season is probably the worst time to take on the challenge of going paleo.  I fully admit, it adds an extra layer of difficulty.  January 1st or let’s just face it, the 2nd is more realistic.  Am I right?

Except that when I got the book Paleo Cleanse by Camilla Carboni and Melissa Van Dover it was after stuffing my face full of Halloween candy and with the thought of Thanksgiving coming up I just knew I needed to refine my eating habits to get back on track.  This seemed ideal.

Paleo Cleanse: 30 Days of Ancestral Eating to Detox, Drop Pounds, Supercharge Your Health and Transition into a Primal Lifestyle is a quick read but there is lots of information to digest, especially if you are not familiar with the paleo rules or detoxing.  Much of the book flows like a continuous blog post and if you are not already on board and using the book as a guideline and recipe book, some of the ideas and concepts may sound critical of the typical way we eat.  That’s intended.

The 30-day plan is all about ridding your body of toxins but without feeling deprived. You WILL lose weight, have an increase in energy, a boost in mental clarity, and improved digestion.  If you have dairy or gluten issues then a reduction of inflammation will occur and make it all the more noticeable. And who doesn’t love a bacon, egg and avocado “sandwich” for lunch or breakfast?  It’s great before a workout or for a quick lunch.  They call it their take on a traditional breakfast, I call it tasty.

I eat these before a workout or as I run the kids to the bus stop.

I have a gluten-intolerance. Eating paleo is something I already do on a somewhat regular basis. It makes dinner time easier and my family likes it.  The best part of this book is that there are SO MANY more recipes than your detox average book.  Since it is not just a cookbook I was surprised and pleased.  There are over 100 recipes, my favorite being the breakfast and snack section because it is the easiest way to fall off the detox wagon.

Packed with easy recipes using simple, satisfying ingredients like meats, eggs and fresh vegetables, this book is a great guide for the newbie and for those needing a refresher.  I agree with the blog  What I Gather review.  Broken down into weekly guidelines with meal plans the book helps you clean out your pantry/fridge and get started easily.  Follow them.  You will thank yourself later when you feel like cheating with refined sugar or other junk food.

Paleo Cleanse, detoxed me from all the sugar and unhealthy fat.  I was eating the same amount but feeling better. I lost a lot of bloat and after three days saw a difference in my waistline.  My clothes fit better after a week and I lost my cravings about that time too.  I slept better, had more energy and I went into Thanksgiving feeling calm and was less inclined to just eat and eat and eat.  I won’t lie, the fact that my husband and I decided to kick-start a more intense workout program on Thanksgiving day did help but I’m going to keep this going as long as I can.

Thanks for sharing this post! I have heard of the Paleo diet but not the detox. I am all up to detoxing and getting rid of toxins so this book has caught my attention. I juice vegetables regularly and dry brush daily so adding foods to my diet what help me get rid of toxins sounds amazing to me. I will definitively get this book. Great post and again, thanks for sharing! Blessings and have a great weekend! XOXO, Jeannette
