Fuel Up with Power Smoothies

It’s that time of year again! It’s time to start thinking about New Year’s resolutions, hitting the gym extra or you know, just taking a brisk walk outside.  All those holiday indulgences might be hitting you hard in the hips, stomach, and jeans.  I have a friend who calls the time between Christmas and New Year’s Eve “toxin’ time” because as of January 1 we all want to detox from it.

Whenever I want to clean up my diet (by diet I mean what I am eating daily, not some program to lose weight) I start the day with a smoothie.  I do all types, I mix in fruit, vegetables, protein powders, flax seeds, chia seeds, yogurt, I could go on.  Each type fuels the style workout I am going to do that day or rebuilds my body after I have exercised.

Power Smoothies: All-Natural Fruit and Green Smoothies to Fuel Workouts, Build Muscle and Burn Fat by Keith Sebastian and Samuel Barnes has over 165 recipes that help build muscle and give your body the energy it needs for staying fit, burning fat and being nourished.

I love adding avocado to my smoothies so the Skinny Avocado is great for burning fat and tastes good.  When I want to boost my metabolism I make up the green tea-infused Almond Up.  There are refreshing smoothies and even types like the berry-filled Cold Buster that strengthens your immune system.  Perfect for this time of year.

My favorite part of this book, and why I haven’t packed it yet like so many of my cookbooks, is that Sebastian and Barnes bring both green smoothies together with protein-filled smoothies.  That’s what I like when I make them and what I need to go through my days.  In all the recipes I have seen online or in other cookbooks, they are often one or the other, not both.

Power Smoothies is super food-rich and full of recipes that will keep you coming back for more!
