Glam Grunge, Are You In?

I will be the first to admit that I was not a fan of grunge the first time around. I still shudder when I see a floral baby doll dress. Last week at Target I had flashbacks when my hand brushed up against a set of floral overalls. I wanted to immediately flee and find a pair of cigarette pants or Breton top to comfort me.

However, I am not afraid to tell you that I am sort of in love with the whole Grunge Glam/Glam Grunge (WHATEVER!) trend. It appeals to me in the same way at 80s Rocker Chic did last summer. I love the mixing of metals, the darker make-up and yup, wearing lots of black, just like I did the first time Grunge was big. I styled up my latest look with this Gold Petal Necklace from Color by Amber.

What you can’t see are the dark lined eyes I did to compliment the look. When it was time for pictures it was just too harsh and bright to not wear shades. Then my photographer/8 year-old daughter said, “I don’t want to hurt your feelings Mom, but you kind of look like a witch.” Sigh. This is it guys, this is the glamorous life I lead.  Right after I ran indoors to quickly change into something more practical for meeting the Peapod man at the door while folding laundry and helping kids with their homework.

Anybody else ready for summer vacation?

Here are a few more variations on the Glam Grunge trend.

Not gonna lie… I rocked the grunge look hard back in the day. I had my favorite flannel shirts, my dad’s old jeans and the attitude to match. Not sure if once a style returns it is ok to join in the 2nd time around. Who knew… glam grunge. Thanks for the ideas!

      Jenny,
I love it! I wore a lot of Mad Men-eque plaid blazers that my grandmother gave me that my Dad and his brothers wore when they were in high school. I rocked that look hard with baby doll dresses and Chinese slippers.

That is too funny about your daughter. I like this look, especially the necklace!

Alice, I am the same way! I learned how to do a great cat-eye from Eco Tools make-up brushes website a few years back and they have a good smokey eye version too. It’s subtle and easy. Check it out!
