5 Summer Make-Up Must Have’s

This past weekend was Memorial Day, the unofficial start of the summer season.  The temperatures are rising, the pool is open and pretty soon we will all be feeling the heat 24/7.  That means taking a break from the heavier make-up. Think sunless tanner, soft peach blush, illuminators and a waterproof mascara. For me, I think less is more in the summer months. I’m too busy having fun, living a more laid back lifestyle to really care what my make-up looks like.  I tend to stick to the basics.

Summer Make-Up Must Have's
  1.  A good sunless tanner that also moisturizes is important. I’m fair-skinned and I still like to have a bit of a glow.  A no-odor formula that I can pick up right alongside my sunscreen at the drugstore works and it should be budget-friendly too. Yes, I totally consider sunless tanner a type of make-up.
  2. Waterproof mascara becomes crucial during the summer months.  Who wants to dive into the pool or sea only to emerge looking like a straight from the deep depths sea witch with mascara running down her face?  Not me!  Find one, like tarte’s limited edition ‘lights, camera, splashes’ 4-in-1 waterproof mascara.  The packaging is super summery and the mascara gets the job done.  It lengthens conditions and protects your lashes while adding volume too.
  3. A nude lip is my go-to lip color during the summer. It won’t clash with my seasonal and bright colors that show off a golden glow. It’s an understated charmer every time.  I keep a few tubes of it around in case of a summertime meltdown.
  4. Add some color to the nude lipstick by introducing a moisturizing chapstick with a bit of berry-stained color.  Brands like Burt’s Bees work well all year round, keeping dry lips at bay.  It’s important to always look fresh during these hot months.
  5. Be bronzed, be beautiful is something we still here despite the warnings about the sun’s damaging rays.  I just break out my favorite bronzer and apply it across my cheekbones, hairline and jawline for some added color.  A brushing of it on my collarbone works well too.
