DIY Three

Dear Fifth Element,

I woke up the morning of your third birthday and saw that it was raining.  Despite wanting to make it a fun day at the pool with you and your sisters it seemed fitting that the weather was the same as the day you were born.

You my girl are a gift to this family.  You take life on with the attitude and the constant refrain of, “I DO IT!”  followed by a growl.  This has been a year of massive change, of progress and intense patience and learning on all our behalf.  Like any change it took us a while to figure out your secrets.  To find the key that unlocks your true personality that we now have the privilege to know and enjoy every day.

In the blink of an eye you have gone from sweet, silent baby to steam-rolling three year-old who starts her first day of preschool in just a matter of days.  I will not believe it until I see you walk through those school house doors, lunchbox and “pack-pack” in hand.

The year went too fast, as they often say it will, and in that year has come more change than any of us could fathom.  You went from a quiet, non-talker to a little girl who walks into the kitchen, grabs her own milk and casually says, “Mornin’ Momma” on your way out of the room.  WHAT?  You like to jump off anything in your path, clean up any mess that is in your way and help with the cooking more than any of your sisters. It has been a joy to experience this new part of your personality and see the confidence in you build each day.

I firmly believe there is a reason you came into our home and it was not just to leave us feeling like our family is now complete.  It was to show us another dimension of love, what family really means and how we could all work together as team in a more joyful, effective and spiritual way.  Thank you for teaching this family a lesson it really needed to learn.

We love you little girl!  As you like to say, “Birthday! Happy! Me!”  Indeed.
