This is Halloween!

In our house Halloween is one of the bigger events for our family during the year. It is the perfect way for us to really show how much we love the fall season, gather with friends and spend some time outdoors.

Getting ready for the big night takes weeks, costumes are just a fraction of it, and it is full of many traditions that include pumpkin picking, fall festivals, pumpkin carving, decorating our home inside and out and of course, choosing a costume for all of six of our family members, including the dog. This year we decided to check out Kmart for our costume needs and the girls had a lot of fun browsing and designing their looks.

My middle child wants to be a ladybug. After playing with the Kmart Kreator she opted for the cute costume and a knife. Meet “Lacerous Lucy, the Ladybug.”  She may not be able to take her knife to school, but she can here.

Creating this look was lots of fun. You pick the type of costume you want – super hero, princess, witch, fairy, scary, sassy and so many more. You choose accessories, different backgrounds and even add a picture of your own face to complete the look. She loved adding the longer hair and spooky backdrop to her slightly scary ladybug look. Come Halloween night, she will be minus the knife but it was funny to watch her change up her look.

Now that costumes have been chosen and ordered from Kmart (free shipping if you pick up in a store) we can get started with the decorations inside and out. We will pick pumpkins in the next few weeks and place them full and round on our front step until just before All Hallows Eve. At that time we will have a pumpkin carving party as a whole family and make and eat roasted pumpkin seeds. On the big night, when we are all dressed and ready to welcome trick or treaters and be them ourselves we will  brew up a batch of hot apple cider for our neighbors to enjoy when they stop by for candy. It’s a great way to commune together and take the October chill off on a spooky night.
How do you celebrate Halloween in your home? Do you have a party, decorate your yard every year or dress up as a whole family?
